Today Brave announced the acquisition of Tailcat, the open search engine developed by the team formerly responsible for the privacy search and browser products at Cliqz, a holding of Hubert Burda Media. As Brave search is still new and evolving so I hope it improves. Brave acquires search engine to offer the first private alternative to Google Search and Google Chrome on both mobile and desktop. Using Startpage is another option but it is owned by an advertising company so there are some concerns there.Īn issue I am having with Brave Search that the dark theme in Search doesnt have good enough contrast between the background and the text.
While I admire their 'objective' results but they are somewhat inconvenient in comparison to Google.Įven though my work and daily usage dont require me to have really specific result but still the change from Google to DDG or Brave Search is being a bit hard for me.Įdit: After the discussion I am leaning towards Brave Search as many people suggested to use either bangs or enable 'Google fallback mixing' for anonymous google results within Brave Search. The Brave Browser, Brave Search, and all their various features are made by Brave Software Inc, an independent, privately-held company.
I tried using Duck Duck Go & the recent Brave search. I use Google in Brave and I know it defies the point of privacy but the search results Google provides are way above than any other platform.
